IMPORTANT PRODUCT TIPS:
COLDFLEX ® is simple to use and is packaged
in a reusable bag and container.
Stockinette: This can be used under the wrap or over the wrap to help keep it clean and to help keep the wrap in place.
Securing Wrap: The wrap adheres to itself if pressed together for 10-seconds, or the "free" end of the wrap can be tucked under the top layer, or if necessary, vet-tape can be used at the top and/or bottom of the wrap for a more secure fit.
PREVENTION: COLDFLEX provides Cold and COMPRESSION therapy, the two most critical components to eliminating unwanted fluid build-up (edema) in the foreleg, known as "stocking up". Although this condition is quite common and not serious in the short-term, it is a sign of slowed circulation of the blood venous flow and lymphatic fluid as it returns to the heart. What many people do not understand is that this fluid retention increases the pressure in the foreleg, which can result in negative effects to the surrounding soft-tissues, nerves and joints in the entire extremity due to localized "waste" build-up. Over time, the effects quantify, resulting in an increased potential for circulatory, joint and hoof disorders.
Application: Apply COLDFLEX to the foreleg for 45 + minutes after riding or if the horse is standing in a stall or trailer for any prolonged period of time. Wraps may be applied up to 8-hours of continued use. .
PERFORMANCE: AGAIN, COLDFLEX provides Cooling and Compression therapy,a KEY to enhancing performance. Although human athletes would not normally use cold therapy prior to a strenuous event, horses are different in that these two components help reduce any laxity (looseness) of the tendons/joints and thereby "tightens" the tendons in the foreleg, which in turn, enhances the strength and power of the horse. This is a technique used quite often with Race Horses to increased their speed while reducing chances of injury.
APPLICATION: Apply wrap to horse's legs for 45-minutes before strenuous exercise to help tighten legs and prevent injury. Also use post-exercise to
reduce edema, inflammation and swelling.
CORE TEMPERATURE REGULATION:
Since the veins/arteries are very close to
the surface on the lower leg. Applying cold therapy to the forelegs can help reduce core body temperature and aid in cases of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. COLDFLEX® has SAVED a number of horses afflicted with these conditions!
APPLICATION: Wrap all 4-legs to help cool the blood on these surface blood vessels, which in turn cools the blood as it returns to the heart and is redistributed back to the body via arterial blood flow. For enhanced cooling, place a COLDFLEX Vet Blanket on the back and/or neck of the horse. When this applied for long
periods of time, be sue to re-hydrate with cold water or alternate wraps and blankets every couple
hours.
IMPORTANT : Do Not Use COLDFLEX if
it is dehydrated of feels dry to the touch. Do not place
an outer wrap over COLDFLEX , as this will slow
down the evaporation process. DO NOT use the Non-Sterile products on
open wounds. Use the Sterile products ONLY for cuts / wounds. |
PRODUCT APPLICATION
Remove COLDFLEX from package, remove
outside film and unroll COLDFLEX from blue core.
Be sure the edge of the wrap is layered over
each other and hold for about 10 seconds to form a secure
bond. COLDFLEX sticks to itself allowing freedom
of movement. For a more secure wrap, tuck under last wrap. DO NOT double-wrap or cover the wrap with non-breathable materials.
COLDFLEX can be cut easily with
scissors. To wrap a larger area, use a second wrap. The
wrap may also be cut in half and used for two horse legs, although 1-wrap per leg is best for full coverage.
